The rules and regulations of the Internet!
For those of you who are new to the internet, and even for those who
are not so new, there are a few things you should know about before
you go wild and crazy. There are certain "rules of thumb" in regard
to email lists, websites, newsgroups, and other internet conversation
areas. As far as the Xanthread is concerned, there are a few things
noted here, that are very specific to our group. There are also some
things that everyone using the internet should know. Please read on,
and try to always use your best judgement!
The Ten Commandments of E-mail:
- Thou shalt include a clear and specific subject line.
- Thou shalt edit any quoted text down to the minimum thou needest.
- Thou shalt read thine own message thrice before thou sendest it.
- Thou shalt ponder how thy recipient might react to thy message.
- Thou shalt check thy spelling and thy grammar.
- Thou shalt not curse, flame, spam or USE ALL CAPS.
- Thou shalt not forward any chain letter (Am I guilty...?).
- Thou shalt not use e-mail for any illegal or unethical purpose.
- Thou shalt not rely on the privacy of e-mail, especially from work.
- Thou shalt not use e-mail address secured from forwarded messages
- When in doubt, save thy message overnight and reread it in the light
of the dawn.
The "Golden Rule" of e-mail:
That which thou findest hateful to receive, sendest thou not unto
others.
